Ingredients

Cinnamon Buns:
1 pound store bought pizza dough
½ cup brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
salt
1 tablespoon butter, melted
Frosting:
½ cup plain cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon milk
½ cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Line a 11 x 7-inch with enough parchment paper so that the sides of the paper overhang. Set aside.
  2. Mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Place dough onto lightly floured surface. Shape dough into a rough rectangle with the long side nearest you. Roll or stretch dough into a 10 x 20-inch rectangle.
  4. Brush dough with melted butter and sprinkle sugar mixture evenly over dough.
  5. Beginning with long edge nearest you, roll dough into a tight cylinder with the seam-side down. Very gently, stretch until cylinder is 20-inch length. Using a knife, slice cylinder into 1-inch thick slices. This should give you 20 buns.
  6. Arrange buns cut-side down in greased baked dish; cover tightly with plastic wrap and set aside until slightly puffed up, about 30 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, mix together cream cheese, milk, and sugar in a small bowl until smooth.
  8. Remove plastic wrap and bake in preheated 350°F oven for 40 minutes.
  9. As soon as they come out of the oven, top buns with sweetened cream cheese frosting and serve.

This is a recipe for Pizza Dough Cinnamon Buns that you want to bake and eat right away.

Pizza Dough Cinnamon Bun Tips:

  • Stretch the dough on a floured counter top.  This will keep the dough from sticking to it.
  • A half an hour before you’re ready to stretch out the pizza dough place it on the kitchen counter, covered.  Store bought pizza dough that’s not straight out of the fridge is much easier to stretch out.
  • Chopped nuts and raisins would taste delicious sprinkled with the sugar and cinnamon mixture (Dina’s Tip).
  • These are meant to look rustic, so don’t fuss over them (clearly, I didn’t:).
  • You can make these pizza dough cinnamon buns the night before.  Continue the recipe to step . Then place buns in the fridge.  A half hour before you’re ready to bake them, take them out of the fridge, but, keep them covered so that they don’t dry out. Then bake as per instructions.
