Burgers cook very quickly over high, high heat. Which means, raw diced onion added to the burger meat never fully cooks – regardless of how thick the burger is. One solution is to grate the onion (which essentially turns it into onion juice) into the burger mix, but you’ll cry doing it. Another option is to simply add onion powder (ground dehydrated onion) to your burgers. Here’s why onion powder in burgers is tasty: the onion powder mixes evenly into the ground beef, adding a subtle delicious sweetness to the mix. This is also true with garlic and garlic powder. Some of my favourite burger recipes use both onion powder and garlic powder.
