Fruits and Vegetables – G

Garlic

 
Pick Plump bulbs with dry skins.  Avoid bulbs that have green spouts or soft, shriveled cloves.
Storage Store in an open container, in a cool, dark, dry place for up to 8 weeks.  
Prepare Leave whole or peel.  Garlic can be smashed, sliced, minced or pureed.

Ginger

 
Pick Firm, smooth, and heavy pieces. Avoid ginger that is wrinkled.  
Storage Store fresh ginger on the counter for up to a week.  Any longer and it should be stored tightly wrapped in the fridge or freezer.
Prepare Peel or leave unpeeled.  Grate, slice, or mince.
