Guesstimating a Pound

A lot of recipes will call for a pound of something – a pound of potatoes, a pound of carrots, etc.  This can easily be figured out if there’s a scale handy.  However, if you’re grabbing produce at the farmers market, a scale may not be around.

When guesstimating a pound, try to imagine the weight of a brick of butter – this will help you to guesstimate, roughly, the right amount.
